27 Aug Planning is essential to your business. How will you meet the challenge?
When you make the choice to go into business for yourself, you hope that after all of your effort you do not fail. In my book, Readi-Set-Go! A Simple Guide to Establishing a Successful Small Business, I review the reasons why businesses fail.
One of the main reasons businesses fail: Lack of planning.
From my experience, there are two types of planning; external and internal. External is the one we are most familiar with, the business plan. The business plan provides a blueprint for our business, keeps us on track, and allows us to present our business when we need financial support from current and future investors.
There are many books and blogs that can help you develop your business plan. This is something that I help small businesses create and review. I have also crafted a simple guide for you to help you walk through this process. There is an amazing amount of help available to you.
However, let’s talk about the part of planning that is often overlooked; internal planning. This is the emotional part behind the scenes of your business. This is simply your motivation, your dedication, and your ability to handle adversity.
You can rise above!
I truly believe that those who are most successful with their small business are those who can set aside the fear that you do not have the drive or the tools to pursue your goal of building a successful small business. So you may ask me, “Well Stephanie, you’re telling me if I get over my fear of failure, I will be successful?” Quite frankly, my answer is “YES!”
Only you are holding you back!
Set aside some time to create a list of goals. Start with a realistic timeline. You will find that your biggest challenge is simply “doing.” Try to avoid distractions and stay away from those who doubt your progress. For example, do not spend time worrying about those who are not helping you move your business forward.
Tell yourself “I can do it!”
Whether you are starting a new small business, or reviewing your current small business, there are many resources to help you get over your fear and increase your motivation and drive so you can “do” what you need to do for your small business.
